Joseph Papazian
Joseph Papazian works abstractly, creating complex paintings which intrigue the eye, but also invite the viewer to literally feel them through touch. The tactility of his work is the key component of his body of work. Instead of brushes and a palette knife, Papazian uses his hands to cover a painting with a variety of marks, textures, and layers. His practice is more like sculpting than painting, using an array of methods to massage thick paint and mediums into the area of a composition. Natural, Earth-like colors and textures mingle with artificial metallic colors and unusual painterly techniques and phenomena. The resulting effect looks like a cross between something to be found in the natural world and a fantastical substance made in a science lab. Papazian is an inventor, through and through.
Joseph Papazian is from California and has been making art since 2012.
